As much as I loved Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, I thought songs like "The Underdog" and "You Got Yr Cherry Bomb" almost sounded out of place...like concessions to another person's vision (ie, Jon Brion's). This new album sounds uncompromisingly Spoon-like, which is a great thing indeed. I need to spend more time with it...but that's the great thing about Spoon: they really make you *want* to do that.

The VW for some reason took its time seeping in. I dunno know...but I felt myself almost wanting to not like it. Why was I no longer rooting for these guys?! But yesterday as I listened to it on my walk to and from the gym, it just *clicked*. You know....that precious but fleeting moment where a song feels familiar without sacrificing any of its excitement? Was feeling that big time with Contra yesterday evening.
