Sleigh Bells, "Crown On The Ground" (2009)


Get to the 0:23 mark? It's supposed to sound that way.

It's been a long time since a song irritated me in the way that this one does. Maybe it was "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House" that last had me reaching for the back button as I was thinking, "God, that's so annoying".

Yeah, it's a catchy pop song, with a hook that reminds me of Adam Ant's "Goody Two Shoes" (think "pound note, pound note"), but it's that decision to push the entire song completely into the red that's one of the gutsiest and most exciting artistic decisions I've heard in years, and the kind of musical masochism that I never think I'll go for until I found that I've gone for it in a big way, in the form of dozens of consecutive replays.
