I've been waiting for Are Seven to comment on these guys, they seem to hit all his musical vices. Dr. Dog's 2008 release Fate borrows 60s style pop (Beatles?) and backwoods rocknroll soul vocals (The Band?) and incorporates them in their contemporary experimental folk sound..."A sly declaration of new classic status slipped into a bunch of safe ones- very pussy!" (to quote Jack Black's character in High Fidelity). Fate would most likely end up in Rob's (Cusack) collection. They have that relatively obscure, loyal to classic rock, "she dumped me, give me a cigarette" sound that would fit nicely bouncing off the dusty walls of Championship Vinyl on a Tuesday morning.I am no Dr. Dog expert. A friend passed Fate onto me with the typically reluctant "their older stuff is better" preemptive renege that I myself have used so often. Just finished my first spin, its growing on me. Suddenly I want to hear Derek and the Dominos again.
What do you do when the drowning stops? Rip off the classics...try not to listen to them because your depressed (or are you depressed because you...)

I can't actually really comment on them besides this one song, since this is really the first time I've heard them. It's not bad, though its retro is in overdrive. Sounds like The Band on caffeine. Makes me want to either go and listen to something really new and groundbreaking or just wait for the next Wilco record.
I'm not a music expert, just a fan. I am so glad that there are new bands like Dr. Dog out there to remind people of the musical genius of the 60's and 70's, which is a refreshing change compared to the souless garbage that permeates the day and age we live in now. Long live Dr. Dog, and down with all of the plastic "Made in China" garbage that most people seem to enjoy these days.
