Gang Gang Dance

One day I will have difficulty standing up on my own two feet. The unrecognizable insect walking across my living room wall reminds me that I am technically unwelcome in my own home.

Rattling bells and tribal beats, droning distorted electronic samples..."in a land where cows are sacred"...This is My Bloody Valentine (at times what sounds like Loveless samples appear) meets Animal Collective remixed by a dance DJ. Experimental Brooklynrockers Gang Gang Dance waited nearly three years to follow up their 2005 eyeopener God's Money to record the this fall's Saint Dymphna, which spans electronic jazz to London grim rock. Their sound follows a very free form, percussion heavy structure that has clear middle eastern/Indian influence (go ahead, let the album art manipulate you). That and their originally singer was struck by lightning and killed in 2002 atop his SoHo roof which may add significantly to the algebra of where-the-fuck Gang Gang Dance gets their sound. Very interesting band, Saint Dymphna will most likely end up on a few 'best albums of 2008' lists. Check out 'First Communion'...right around 2:10 you begin to realize how amazing their live shows must be.
