Trade those strings in for some drums, 'Mate

This is more of a shout out to Four Tet than Sia. Don't get me wrong, she is very talented/beautiful/Australian, but she needs to simplify. Take her hit 'Breathe Me' as a convenient example. The song begins with a Counting Crows Color Blind piano rip off that clears the path for her laid-back Aussie lounge vocals...then (pause) enters what can easily be described as a Switchfoot cover band on night quill. Very very numbingly boring.

Four Tet must have thought so too, but he saw through the pointlessly added noise and found Sia's amazing voice...then he took it to his studio. Four Tet's remix
is pure minimalism; Sia singing over a continuous drum fill and occasional xylophone. It ends with some clever editing on the before mentioned string-orchestra nonsense and what we are left with is one of those rare moments when a remix is better than its original. Four Tet's 2006 double disk Remixes is full of these moments spanning hip hop to lounge singers Down Under.
