Monday night at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue Grizzly Bear took a break from their tour with Radiohead to play a set of almost all new material. It was one of the better shows I've seen in awhile, mainly due to the way the temple acoustics carried the band's four part harmonies and multi-instrumental sound...that and the giant Star of David and assortment of Menorah. I can't imagine seeing them in a massive arena (even when sharing a stage with the biggest band on earth)...a lot of what makes their sound great would be lost in the crowd noise. Their ability to turn from loud to quiet in the same measure is what makes songs like Knife and Little Brother so different. Expect a new album in the next 10 months...here is a sample of some upcoming Grizzly Bear as heard in a God's house.Grizzly Bear: 'While You Wait for the Others' (live in 2008)

Thanks for the review. I really wanted to see this show, as it seemed like the perfect marriage of venue and band. May get another chance to see Grizzly Bear again, but I doubt it will be in a nice big echo-ey synagogue. I bet it was reverb bliss!
It was amazing...any other band might have been too much, but they used the space well.
